KATHY MUEHLEMANN
Born: February 9, 1950 Austin, TX
Kathy Muehlemann and Gary met 45 years ago as young adults. Kathy is a painter and art professor at Randolph College. She is known for her dedication and excellence in both fields. Her latest honor was an invitation to exhibit in a group show at the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Awarded a fellowship to the American Academy in Rome, Kathy spent a second year in Rome when her husband Jim Muehlemann won his own fellowship to the Academy a few years later.
In addition, Kathy has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation.
Like Agnes Martin, Kathy has influenced my work. She usually finds her images within herself and expresses them through her own visual language. Although her oeuvre is small-scale and of limited numbers, each piece has resounding meaning to her and that communicates to the viewer. The meditative quality, wholehearted essence and her awareness of the history of art and artists have been a compelling force in Gary's life and art.
